Top-10 computer games of all times

Everyone agrees that it is almost impossible to give an absolute top 10 of all-time (computer) games. Nevertheless, on a personal note it should be feasible, because in my now 25 years of game experience, some games have made a much bigger impression than others. And, opposite to the perception of most comtemporay gamers, it is not true that the newer the game, the better it is. Maybe that goes for graphics, but that's about it. So, here it is, my own non-objective games topX:

  1. Doom I & II. No doubt about it. Defined a whole new game-concept, and it has got the Baron of Hell. Whoeha!
  2. Soul Calibur. The power of the Dreamcast comes close to perfection here, plus there is an Elvis with nunchaku's!
  3. Baldur's gate series. Defines what kind of player you are. If you are like me, most probably you'd like to toast your opponents by frequently throwing fireballs, lightning bolts and magic missiles from a save distance (yep, I am your plain archetype sorcerer).
  4. The hobbit. First text-adventure on ZX spectrum. Talking about difficulty levels (and yet no walkthroughs). Plus the six (four-color) pictures took about an hour to load. Go N-NW-SE-E-E-E and death for seemingly no reason ...
  5. Starcraft. Blizzard rulez in space. Not revolutionary (that was Dune), but so much fun to play (especially those cute little siege tanks) ...
  6. Pirates. Sailing the shores of cheese. Hmmm, anyway, one of the most addictive games on the Commodore 64.
  7. Diablo. For that unforgettable almost 3-D hack-and-slash role-playing experience (have I mentioned yet that Blizzard rulez?).
  8. Pitfall. Oh the Atari. When pixels were still pixels and RSI was not an issue (Summergames anyone).
  9. Ninja Gaiden. Normally I don't like adventure games, but this one is plain brilliant (and Japanese, thus the women are very healthy looking).
  10. Asteroids. When you started moving, you were definitely on the loose. Shooting rocks = satisfying.
